Process for the preparation of pure acetoacetamide which is stable on storage

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of pure acetoacetamide which is stable on storage, in which the reaction of diketene and ammonia is carried out under anhydrous conditions in the presence of aliphatic chlorohydrocarbons using an excess of diketene of 0.01 to 2 % of theory and at temperatures of < +10 DEG C. The stated amounts of excess diketene are in this case proportioned such that an aqueous extract of the reaction mixture obtained has a pH of 6 to 7. The acetoacetamide is separated off from the suspension obtained by centrifugation at temperatures of < +10 DEG C and dried under reduced pressure at temperatures up to 50 DEG C. The acetoacetamide thus obtained has a degree of purity of at least 99 % and is stable on storage at room temperature in virtually unchanged form without further purification or stabilisation measures.
