In order to ensure, in the case of a heater with a heat pump (2) and a boiler (1) which is heated directly by the condenser (3) of the heat pump (2), a compact and space-saving construction method and ease of servicing and installation, the boiler (1) is given so much clearance from the ground that the heat pump (2), along with its units arranged outside the boiler (1), can be pushed beneath said boiler. Expediently, the boiler can be accommodated in a case-shaped housing, via which air can be sucked from zones located at a large distance above the heat pump (2). <IMAGE>
