862,352. Reduction and separation of Plutonium. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Dec. 17, 1959 [Dec. 23, 1958], No. 42908/59. Class 39(4). Plutonium is reduced from the tetravalent to the trivalent state by means of ascorbic acid. A tributyl phosphate solution containing plutonium IV nitrate, uranyl nitrate, and nitric acid, which has been obtained by extraction of a nitric acid solution of uranium from an atomic pile, is contacted with an aqueous solution of ascorbic acid, whereby the plutonium is reduced to valency III and passes into the aqueous phase, leaving uranium in the organic phase.
|
