A replaceable tread tyre comprises a casing 1 formed at each shoulder region with a recess 8 to leave a raised central portion 10, and a replaceable tread ring 4 having a continuous circumferential radially inwardly projecting rib of rectangular section at each side edge to seat in the recesses 8, the central portion 11 of the ring being reinforced with one or more pairs of crosslaid parallel cord plies 5, 6 each having a cord angle of 5 degrees to 20 degrees to the mid-circumferential plane A-A, whereby on inflation of the casing the central portion 11 of the ring tends to contract axially so that the ring edges bind against the sidewalls 9 of the recesses. The ring edges may each be reinforced with one or more metal rods or cables 7, and the casing 1 may comprise an unreinforced carcase or as shown, a carcase of radial cord plies 2.
