The invention proposes to cover a roof with a turfed surface which can be made up of sods. A watertight roofing skin made up of conventional roofing sheets is arranged beneath the turfed surface. The turfed surface is kept in position by securing means, number and arrangement of the securing means being dependent on the pitch of the surfaces of the roof and any superstructures, which may likewise be covered by turfed surfaces.
