Echo sounding method for measuring water level and waves from the bottom of waters

When measuring water level and waves from the bottom of waters by means of echo sounding, it is found in nature that in extreme weather conditions, additional echoes occur between water surface and the bottom of the sea which considerably disturb the detection of the surface of the sea. The basic concept of the invention can be seen in Figure 3 and consists in that the echoes from the water space must mandatorily arrive before the main echo from the water surface. The analysing circuit of the echo sounding water level and wave measuring instrument therefore has the characteristic to detect, in the receiving period, not the first echo, as usual, but the last arriving echo as echo from the water surface. Furthermore, the sounding electronics contain suitable electronic measures with averaging functions which prevent the double echo of the wave trough, which is possible in the meantime under favourable acoustic conditions and which would arrive later than the real echo from the water surface from being able to interfere with the analysis of the water surface echoes.
