(A) 3-Aryl-1-X-2-(1,2,4-triazol- 1-yl)-2-propen-1-ols of formula (I) and their acid-addn. salts and metal-salt complexes are new. In (I) Ar is (R)n-phenyl; R is halogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, haloalkoxy, alkoxy, alkylthio, haloalkylthio, mono- or dialkylamino, NO2, CN, OH, alkanoyloxy or opt. substd. phenyl, phenoxy or benzyloxy; n=0-5; X is opt. substd. cycloalkyl or CR1R2-Y; R1 and R2 are alkyl; Y is alkyl other than Me, or is opt. substd. phenyl or alkoxycarbonyl. (B) Intermediates of formula (II) are also new from which (I) are prepd. by redn. (I) are useful as (a) plant growth regulators, e.g. inhibiting growth of grass, cotton and soya, and promoting ethylene release by soya leaves, and (b) fungicides, e.g active against Erysiphe graminis. Specifically claims are the E and Z isomers of 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-4,-dimethyl- 2-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-1- hexen-3-ol (Ia). |
