PURPOSE:To reduce number of passes and to improve rolling efficiency by shaping projecting parts in the thickness direction of a slab while edging said slab with the vertical rolls of a universal roughening mills and shaping the projecting parts to flange parts and rolling and shaping the web faces with the horizontal rolls. CONSTITUTION:While a slab 3 is subjected to edging of width L in the width L direction with vertical rolls 2a, 2b, it is produced with projecting parts 401, 402, 403, 404 in its thickness Hb (caliber) direction, and these are shaped with horizontal rolls 1a, b. Further, the edging is continued to grow the projecting parts. During the above-mentioned stage, the rolls 1a, b restrain web faces 46 under the edging of the width Hx with the rolls 2a, b, thereby preventing their twisting and buckling. Next, the web height goes flush to the web height of the beam blank and while the web faces 46 are rolled down to the thickness W1, flange parts 41-44 are shaped. |
