<p>PURPOSE:To eliminate the effect which is given to the reading due to the printing density, a shift of the focal position to the characters and to ensure the accurate reading of characters, by setting the quantizing level based on the size and the area of a character pattern decided at a data processing part. CONSTITUTION:The characters are formed to a self-scanning type surface scanner, and the video signal obtained from this scanner is delivered through a photoelectric converting part 20. This output is quantized to a prescribed level by a quantizing circuit 21. The black and white block signals quantized by the circuit 21 are supplied to a pattern storing memory 25 as well as to OR circuits 26 and 31. Then the patterns of the characters given from the circuit 21 which are projected vertically and horizontally are stored temporarily in vertical and horizontal projection registers 27 and 33 respectively. At the same time, the period during which the black block exists is counted by a counter 29 with every scanning, and the output of the counter 29 is applied to a data processing part 30 along with the outputs of the register 27 and 33. The size and the area of the character pattern are decided at the part 30. Based on this result of decision, the quantizing level of the circuit 21 is set to ensure the accurate reading of characters.</p> |
