The title compds. were prepd. by resoln. of D,L-carnitine amide with D-camphoric acid. Thus, 500 g D,L-carnitinamide hydrochloride was treated with 550 g D-camphoric acid to give D,L-carnitinamide, D-camphoric acid, which was sepd. by fractional crystn. to give L-carnitinamide. D-camphoric acid, which was acidified with HCl gas to give L-carnitinamide-hydrochloride. The latter was hydrolyzed to give 150 g L-(-)-carnitinamide hydrochloride.
