PURPOSE:To prevent fogging due to overdevelopment by etherifying the mercapto group of a heterocyclic mercapto compound with a specified group. CONSTITUTION:To a silver halide emulsion layer and/or a colloidal layer permeable to water through said emulsion layer is added an indole compound represented by general formulaI(where A is the heterocyclic group of a mercapto anti-foggant, each of R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 is H, halogen, alkyl, phenyl, alkoxy, hydroxyl, nitro, carboxy or alkoxycarbonyl, R1-R4 may form a ring, and R6 is H, alkyl or phenyl). The compound is a precursor which is perfectly stable in a neutral or weakly acidic state and releases an active anti-foggant in the presence of alkali for development, and it does not cause desensitization during the storage of the resulting sensitive material. |
