The device continuously records the reaction of a spectator or listener and has a cassette (6) containing a magnetic tape (5) and recording head (14). A quartz clock (15) triggers the operation of the device and a cursor (8) is displaceable along a graduated scale (7) representing an appreciation index and controlling by its position recording signals for the tape. The cursor transmits a voltage analogue signal to an analogue/digital converter (9) which provides a binary signal of four parallel bits applied to a parallel/series converter (12) synchronised to mains frequency. The signal is then applied to a voltage controlled oscillator (13) coupled to the recording head.
