The printer is used to automatically print alphanumeric data e.g. weight, price, reference number etc. Its printing part (10) can move in both directions in relation to the printed sheet, and comprises a hammer (12) swivelling around an axle. The end of the hammer (12) is fitted with a printing head (15), e.g. a printing roller. The printed sheet is placed on an elastic support (30), e.g. a rubber plate. The printing head (15) is controlled by a driving component, such as an electromagnet, which acts on the hammer (12) under the effect of a printing control signal. The printing head (15) strikes the sheet due to inertia, prints and is immediately returned to its rest position due to the sheet elastic support.
