The toy has a hollow stem (12) communicating with a reservoir (11) of buttle making liquid. The stem (12) has apertures (13) so that when the toy is swung around, liquid will flow from the container to the stem and streams of air (A) passing through some of the apertures (13) will form bubbles (B) at other apertures. A line (14) is attached to the toy for swinging it around. The reservoir (11) has an air inet (32) to stop a vacuum forming as the liquid flows out. Optionally, the apertures in the stem are selectively closeable by a slide valve. The toy is durable and has no or very few moving parts.
