PURPOSE:To effectively operate a plasma ignition apparatus from a low speed rotation region to a high speed rotation region of an engine, by changing over an ignition mode according to the load condition of the engine and the operation conditions. CONSTITUTION:At the time of high load when ignition performance is particularly required, by detection of an ignition mode control circuit 22 a switch 21 is changed over to a plasma ignition mode to perform spark discharge followed by plasma discharge. When it is rotated at a high speed, the switch 21 is switched to the side indicated by the reference (b) to short a first condenser 3 and to disconnect a diode 4 with a fixed terminal of the switch 21. At the time of ignition, an operation stopping signal is fed to a terminal 23 of a booster 2, a trigger signal is inputted into a gate 6 of a thyristor 5, and the charged electric charge in a second condenser 7 is quickly discharged via a primary 81 of a transformer 8 and the thyristor 5 to induce a high voltage in the secondary 82 to perform spark ignition. |
