PURPOSE:To improve safety as a perfect sealed radioactive-ray source by sealding with a coating substance the ceramic body having radioactive substance dispersed and contained. CONSTITUTION:When a voltage is applied through the stabilizer for a metal halide lamp, current flows through a current-limit resistance 15 as a bimetal switch 17 is closed, and a glow lamp 16 operates. On the other hand, auxiliary discharge starts between the main electrode 7 on one side and a starting auxiliary electrode 9, and said auxiliary discharge proceeds to the main discharge between main electrodes 7 and 8, and main discharge is started. As radioactive substance 19 is sealed in a luminous bulb 4, initial electrons are emitted from said radioactive substance 19, and start is performed rapidly, and the starting voltage is reduced. As for the radioactive sealed-wire source 18 the radioactive substance 19 is dispersed and contained in a ceramic body 20, exfoliation from the ceramic body 20 hardly occurs, and the dangerousness of adhesion onto human body is prevented, and safety can be obtained.
