PURPOSE:To mass-produce efficiently a flash discharge tube which is constituted by sealing both ends of a glass tube with metal caps. CONSTITUTION:Metal caps 1 and 1' which are provided with electrode chips A fused to them are attached to both ends of a glass tube 2. A plural number of glass tubes 2 provided with metal caps 1 and 1' are held between tools 5 and 6 made of ceramic plates prepared by sintering Al2O3, ZrO2 or the like. Next, a cock 10 of an exhaust pipe is opened so as to exhaust a bell jar 8 and the tube 2, and the cock 10 is closed and a cock 9 is opened so as to charge an inactive gas such as N2 or Ar into the bell jar 8 and the tube 2. Then, a heating element 7 is heated from outside the bell jar 8 so as to make the metal caps 1 and the tube 2 to be fused. After that, the tools 5 and 6 and the tube 2 are taken out of the bell jar 8 after cooling. Thus, a flash discharge tube charged with a given rate gas is completed. |
