<p>The electric vehicle has the rechargeable battery slung under the floor at the rear of the chassis, in front of the rear wheels. The floor is pressed upwards in a transverse form to accomodate the battery which slides in laterally using angled guide rails (17, 18) welded to the underside of the floor and angled lips (19, 20) at the top edge of the battery to support the weight. The battery holder is made from a tough moulded plastic shell (22) of trough shape and the front guide rail (17) is joined to the floor pan with weakened welds so that it shears off in a collision. The heavy battery is thus thrown under the vehicle, out of harms way and the loss in weight to the vehicle reduces impact damage.</p> |
