Room ventilation apparatus comprises a casing (10. 12) arranged to be inserted into a wall, a window, or other mounting surface of a room such that one half of the casing projects outside the room. A fan wheel (18) is disposed within the casing with its vertical axis parallel to the mounting surface. The lower part (12) of the casing is divided by vertical webs (22) into a plurality of parallel ducts extending at right angles to the mounting surface and having openings (26, 28) which open alternately into the interior of the room and to the outside. The ducts are alternately in communication with outlet apertures (14, 16) provided in the upper part (10) of the casing such that when the fan wheel (18) is rotating air is drawn from the interior of the room through openings (26) into the corresponding ducts and thence to the outlet aperture (16) and at the same time air is drawn from the outside through openings (28) into the corresponding ducts and thence to the outlet aperture (14).
