The invention relates to a further development of a keyboard instrument which has a normal key arrangement with a number of elongate black and white keys arranged next to one another, and behind the keys there is a space which makes it possible that at least the fingertips of the pianist can be put behind the end of at least a number of keys. The invention aims to simplify and improve such designs of keyboard instruments. This is made possible according to the invention in that the space mentioned previously is provided behind the keys in the form of an elongate recess in the inside of at least the cover and possibly in some further parts of the instrument, in that the lower limit line of the elongate recess corresponds to the upper side of the black keys when these are pressed down, and in that the ends of the elongate recess lie on each side of the central line of the keyboard.
