A wheel nut (10) having a captive washer (18) comprises an internally threaded nut head (11) provided with a radially outwardly extending shoulder (14), the shoulder (14) and the washer (18) being provided with a cooperating formation which serves to retain the washer in position on the nut head. The co-operating formation may comprise an inturned lip (19) which engages in a co-operating peripheral recess (15) in the shoulder (14). A conical bearing interface (16, 17) on the nut (10) and the washer (18) is advantageously substantially 20` to the radial plane of the nut. |
