In a device for developing photo material having a cylindrical drum which accommodates the photo material and is driven to rotate, the drum axis is arranged essentially horizontally in the working position, which is effective for treatment. For the purpose of quickly discharging the treating liquid, the drum axis is inclined in order that the drum end provided with the outlet occupies a lower position than the other drum end. So as to carry this out simply and in a space-saving way, the drum end which can be raised and lowered is received in an eccentrically mounted multi-part gear unit which serves to transmit the rotary movement of the drum. The eccentric member of the gear unit can be locked in one of two defined rotary positions which correspond to the working position and emptying position of the drum.
