Method and device for testing leakproofness by measuring the differential pressure on a test unit provided with separate measurement chambers and to whose one measurement chamber a test object can be connected and to whose other measurement chamber a reference object can be connected, between the spaces of which a pressure difference occurs in the event of a loss by leakage in the test object, which outputs (preferably electrically) measurable signals, the loss by leakage of the test object being determined per se during a specific measuring time independently of a specific, constant differential pressure value only from the respective relative change in differential pressure.
