The invention relates to a process for spray coating industrial articles, such as tape, disc, video and audio reproduction and recording equipment, and a coating aid for carrying out this process. The process consists, when coating surfaces as far as edges, the second surface terminating at the edge not to be coated or to be coated in a different colour, in the paint mist being kept away from the uncoated or differently coated surface by suction. A coating aid which generates suction in the vicinity of the edge acting as coating boundary, which suction extracts the paint mist, serves for keeping away the stray paint mist.
