<p>Crystals are recovered from used plating electrolyte continuously fed through a large inclined container whose lower closed section is surrounded by a continuously liq. cooled jacket. Electrolyte enters the container through a motor-driven hollow axial shaft with holes at its lower end. Mounted on the shaft is an Archimedean spiral which as it is rotated by the same motor stirs the electrolyte and also moves deposited crystals past the electrolyte surface to the open upper end of the container from which they drop into a receiver. Slotted into the carved strip forming the spiral are brushes or other scrapers to remove crystals from the container wall. Used for treating large vol. of electrolyte e.g. to recover iron sulphate from copper plating bath. The unit need not be stopped for cleaning, which is an unpleasant manual operation, a single motor operates both stirrer and extractor spiral, and heat transfer is not reduced by crystal build-up on the container wall. The top of the container may be heated to dry the crystals before ejection.</p> |
