The valve comprises a spindle (5) which is slidable in bushes (9,10) in a sub-housing (7), thermally insulated from the valve housing (2). It is air-cooled via a connection (11) to an annular groove (18) in the sub-housing. Part of this air passes through axial grooves along the spindle away from the stop member (6). The other part passes towards the stop member and, via bores (12), into an annular chamber (13) between the sub-housing and the stop member. When the valve is fully open, there is an annular gap (14) between the stop member and an annular portion in the valve housing through which the annular chamber communicates with the housing interior. The rear of the stop member seats (15) on the lower bush (10) end, closing the axial grooves.PS.
