An automatically blocking belt-reeling device for safety belts in vehicles is equipped with a belt-band winding shaft which is mounted rotatably in a housing and to each of the ends of which is fastened a blocking wheel having teeth, into which can engage at least one bolt which is fastened pivotably to a rotary axle mounted in the housing next to the winding shaft. There are provided a flywheel rotatable coaxially with the winding shaft and relative to this and a release device which brings the bolt into blocking engagement and interacts with the flywheel and which responds, on the one hand, to a pull-out acceleration of the belt band and, on the other hand, by means of a detent pawl arranged pivotably on a movably mounted inertia body, to a vehicle acceleration. To provide a belt-reeling device in which equally high accelerations cause a release in all directions of space in relation to the belt-reeling device, so that there is equal release sensitivity in all directions of space and synchronisation between the bolt and blocking wheel is ensured, according to the invention it has been provided that the release device has a blocking pawl which is rotatably arranged eccentrically relative to the winding shaft and is arranged in a blocking cage rotatable concentrically to the shaft and relative to this and having teeth and which blocking pawl can be brought into engagement with these teeth as a result of rotation with equal force in all directions, that the rotation of the blocking cage can be transmitted via a coupling to a release plate likewise arranged concentrically to the shaft, and that a projection on the bolt is in operative engagement with the release plate.
