PURPOSE:A whitening cosmetic, containing a 3(or 5) -hydroxy-gamma-pyrone compound, having improved inhibitory effects on melanization, and capable of exhibiting the greatest whitenting and sun screen effects with high stability. CONSTITUTION:A cosmetic containing a compound of the formula (R is H or 1-20C saturated or unsaturated alkyl or 2-20C hydroxyalkyl, acyl or saccharide residue, e.g. glucose or fructose), e.g. pyromeconic acid or allomaltol, in an amount of 5wt% or less. The compound of the formula is capable of inhibiting the action of tyrosinase on the human skin and producing the remarkable whitening effect, and has improved compatibility with a cosmetic base, and has no deterioration in effects or quality during the storage thereof due to the slight change by pH, heat, decoloring, etc. |
