PURPOSE:To inhibit the generation of surface flaws and to obtain a hardened strip of less strain and high flatness in hardening a strip to be hardened which is heated to hardening temp. continuously by successively cooling the same, by passing said strip through plural rotating bodies thereby leveling and cooling the same. CONSTITUTION:Quenching oil 2 is stored in a hardening tank 1, and rotary drums 11, 21, 31 are fixed. The drum 21 is inclined properly by the turning of two adjusting screws 24 provided on both sides thereof, so that a strip 4 to be hardened is prevented from deviating from the respective drums. The drums 11 and 21, as well as 21 and 31 are linked by means of arms 41, 42 respectively and the drum 31 is supported on a movable bed 36 moving on a stationary bed 37 to the right and left of the figure so that the relative position of the respective drums can be adjusted within said range. In this way, the curvature of the strip 4 passing through the drums 11, 21, 31 successively in rolling contact therewith is adjusted and the flatness after the hardening is improved without difficulty. |
