The invention relates to a sheet-gripping device on sheet processing machines, in which the holding surfaces of the sheet-gripping cushions made of elastic and non-elastic material interact, one of the holding surfaces being structured and consisting of uniform profile elements. The object of the invention is to prevent the sheet from slipping between the holding surfaces of the sheet gripper and the sheet-gripping cushion by optimum distribution of the forces acting on the holding surfaces. The object is achieved in that the profile elements have a longitudinal edge coming into contact with the sheet, and a second longitudinal edge of a second profile element is arranged offset at the same angle relative to a first longitudinal edge of a first profile element arranged at an acute angle relative to the sheet running direction. <IMAGE>
