The invention relates to a seat belt arrangement in the region of the deflection fitting which constitutes an important component in the seat belt system. The deflection fitting (1) which is attached to the B pillar (6) of the vehicle transmits the forces in the belt (3) from the occupant to the automatic retractor. In this process, in addition to the main forces in the longitudinal direction, transverse forces also occur on the belt deflection axis (13), which forces result in a disadvantageous slipping of the belt (3). This problem is remedied according to the invention in that the pivot axis (2) of the deflection fitting (1) forms with respect to the direction (4) of travel an angle (5) which is smaller than the customary 90 DEG and lies preferably between 50 DEG and 70 DEG . As a result, the deflection fitting (1) is aligned more to the shoulder point of the occupant and the negative transverse forces are produced to a much smaller degree. This special alignment can be achieved by means of a corresponding design in the attachment area of the B pillar (6) or by a corresponding design of the deflection fitting (1) itself. <IMAGE>
