A device for grinding the blade edges of a woodworking planing machine in which a blade holder, sunk in a work table, is mounted in such a way that it can be rotationally driven about an axis lying transversely to the feed direction of the workpiece and is provided at the periphery with several blade edges running transversely to the feed direction of the workpiece and projecting above the plane of the work table during rotation of the blade holder. The invention is characterised in that the device contains a grinding tool coupled to a drive and, while the grinding tool is aligned with the blade edges, can be mounted directly onto the work table of the planing machine and secured thereto, in that the grinding tool can be moved in a reciprocating manner parallel to the blade edges, and in that, furthermore, the device has a stop which can be placed against a blade edge or the blade face or the blade holder, and in that a means for pressing the blade holder or the blades against the stop is provided. The stop can conveniently be moved along with the grinding tool and supports the blade holder directly under the working area of the grinding tool. The device can also be used outside the machine for forming a stationary grinding device. <IMAGE>
