A recording medium is described, in which signals are magnetically recorded on a mother video disc (13), which contains a layer (12) of Co-Cr. A daughter video disc (17) has a transparent layer (16) and a magnetic layer (15), which is formed from a non-crystalline rare-earth metal and a 3d transition metal and is applied to the transparent layer (16). If the transparent layer (16) is heated up, the data stored on the mother video disc (13) are thermally transferred to the daughter video disc (17). <IMAGE>
