PRODUCING AMMONIA

Ammonia is prepared by passing a feedstock containing hydrogen and nitrogen over a catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal catalyst and an alkali or alkaline earth metal promoter supported on graphite-containing carbon of specified surface area characteristics. At least 75% of the hydrogen initially present in the feed is converted to ammonia without recycle.
