A security system uses one electronic key (12, 12') that contains many key codes of the user to control several different security devices. The key may or may not be electrically active, and may provide mechanical (42) as well as electronic access control. Each security device contains a stored code (70) and electronically correlates (74) the stored code and input pulse patterns of the key codes. A large number of key codes are possible without compromise of system security. Each security device responds to a particular key code or to more than one key code in a master lock system. The key (12, 12') when energized presents its entire repertoire of key codes to the security device and access is enabled when the security device senses its corresponding code. |
