<p>12083 PACKING RING CONTAINING FLEXIBLE GRAPHITE OF THE DISLCOSURE The subject invention involves a refomable packing ring comprising small, randomly oriented particles of flexible graphite compressed together thereby forming a highly isotropic article which has utility for packing the stuffing box assembly of any pump, valve or like structure. When pressure is applied to the packing ring of the invention by the gland of a stuffing box, the small randomly oriented particles undergoes flow with respect to one another including significant lateral flow causing the ring to reform its shape to the dimensions of the stuffing box. Coventional packing rings which are formed from flexible graphite sheet are highly oriented and do not undergo any significant lateral flow when subjected to pressure by the gland of a stuffing box.</p> |
