PURPOSE:To facilitate ignition activation and lengthen a positive column by forming a part of lead wires connecting electrodes with a profile memory alloy and making a discharge distance at the time of ignition activation smaller than the distance between both electrodes after lighting. CONSTITUTION:When a switch is turned on, voltage is applied to both terminals of a lamp. Since the tube temperature is still low at this moment, coil-shaped lead wires 4 made of a profile memory alloy are in a martensite status and are prolonged. Therefore, the distance between electrodes 5, 5 is made small and the discharge ignition voltage becomes low, and discharge is started between the electrodes 5, 5. As the tube temperature rises as a result of this discharge, the coil-shaped lead wires 4 begin to shrink, and the positive column is prolonged resulting in a norma lighting status. |
