PURPOSE:To obtain a display device having beautiful colored contrast to the background and high durability in an easy way and with a low cost, by forming a yellow metallic lithium-tungsten bronze thin film on a back substrate as an electrode. CONSTITUTION:A transparent electrode 2 is formed on the back of a front transparent substrate 1, and an amorphous thin film 3 of WO3 is formed on the electrode 2 by a vapor deposition method, etc. On the other hand, a lithium- tungsten bronze thin film 5 of about 1mu thickness is formed on a back substrate 4 made of a metal or insulator. A cell is formed with a spacer 6, and an organic liquid (glycerol, polycarbonate or mixture of them with Li ion) or a solid-state electrolyte thin film 7 is stored in the cell. For instance, the film 5 is formed by evaporating a composition of LiXWO3(X>=0.15). The same effect is obtained by using an alkali metal like Na, etc. in place of Li. In such a way, a high-contrast electrochromic element which can withstand the repetitive coloring and descoloring is obtained. |
