The fuel safety tank for a heat engine replaces the air above the fuel in the tank with inert gas. It comprises a small-bore pipe connecting the engine exhaust manifold to a point at the top of the tank. Between the pipe and the manifold a system can be mounted cooling the exhaust gases and condensing the water vapour contained in them, the condenser having a sloping portion returning the water to the manifold. A filter can also be fitted in the pipe, arresting any solid particles and acting as a flame trap, and this can be combined with the cooler and condenser into a single unit.
|
