PURPOSE:To tense the outer skin surface of a vehicle body by using M-like cross-section shape pillars for securing the outer skin of the vehicle body so that the concave portions of the pillars are deformed outward after the outer skin of the vehicle body has been secured to the pillars. CONSTITUTION:A pillar 21 used as one constitutional members of side members, has an M-like cross-section shape, including, in its substantially center portion, a concave portion 21a longitudinally extending, and having leg portions 21b1, 21b2 provided with a pair of flanges 21c. An outer skin panel 11 is welded, at its flange portions 11a, to the leg portion 21b1 of each pillar 21, and an inner skin 12 is also welded to the flange portions 21c of each pillar 21. Accordingly, the concave portion 21a of each pillar 21 is pushed from the inside to the outside by means of a jig so that the concave portion 21a is deformed outward, thereby the outer skin panel 11 may be tensed. |
