<p>A chart rack has a pair of enclosed rotary drums sepd. by a flat base across which a continuous chart may be deployed by winding from one drum to the other, or vice versa, across a base plate. The chart is protected by a hinged, mounted panel of transparent material, specifically PMMA, on which bearings etc. may be marked relative to the chart beneath. The rack is used as a navigation aid on small boats, e.g. private yachts or cruisers. It is more compact than a chart chest, and protects the charts from soiling, creasing, tearing etc. The transparent cover is pref. marked using a waterproof ink which can be removed by a convenient solvent such as alcohol which does not damage the cover. Pref. the level of the storage rolls above the base plate is adjustable, to suit the thickness of the map(s) beneath the cover. Opt. it can be mounted on a table, bulkhead or inverted beneath a wheelhouse roof, and may include lighting.</p> |
