Monomethylhydrazine (MMH) is synthesised from chloramine, monomethylamine (I) and NaOH, the novelty being that the reaction mixt. also contains hydrazine and the (I) is obtd. according to the reaction NH2Cl+CH3NH2+NaOH=CH3NHNH2+NaCl+H2O Reaction takes place with min. formation of by-prods. and max. yield of MMH. MMH is used as fuel for the propulsion of rockets and satellites.
