The invention relates to a method for correcting deviations in inking and damping in offset printers. The object of the invention is to develop a method which can be carried out independently of mechanical switching processes and with all the fault factors acting on the damping and ink being detected. The object is achieved in that the evaluation of the ink density values obtained by means of a densitometer takes place by means of an evaluation device and the output values obtained are used for the correction of the position of the ink metering elements, the ink ductors and the damp ductor. The monitoring strip applied to the printed products transversely to the direction of transport is designed in such a way that in each zone of the monitoring strip to be measured a full-tone field and two fields with line grids with different line width and the same surface coverage are measured in the printing direction. The evaluation of the measured ink density values permits, on the basis of the functional dependence between ink density values, damping and the ink film, the ink zone screws, the colour ductor and the damp ductor to be controlled. The quality of the printed products is thus increased. <IMAGE>
