A refuse collection vehicle has a container support (10) for raising and tipping containers (B) in order to discharge their contents through an aperture (4) into a loading funnel (2). The container support is mounted on hinges (16) over the lower margin of the aperture, but it has an ineffective position in which it is arranged below the aperture at least over part of the width thereof in order to permit free access for manual discharging of containers. A further container support can be provided with an ineffective storage position above the funnel aperture so that, depending on the container to be tipped, one of the two supports can be used or both supports can be stowed away so that they do not impede the manual loading of the vehicle. <IMAGE>
