These have a closed frame or ring, in which a multiplicity of elongate metal sheets are mounted pivotably at their lower end. In the position of rest, these metal sheets form a hollow cylinder; the metal sheets can progressively be pivoted inwards out of this position, covering one another in a shingle-like manner, to form a hollow cone, so that the clear passage orifice for the chimney can thus be adjusted continuously. The smoke-gas outflow speed can consequently be adapted to the different loads on the chimney or on the associated boiler system, this being very important particularly where small loads are concerned. The adjustment of the metal sheets to form a more or less acute truncated cone can take place automatically in dependence on the load state.
