The package b 1 , Fig. 2, is driven by a grooved drum a and when the shaft b 2 reaches the top of a guide groove d 1 the package is raised manually and deposited in a groove h 5 of a support h, Fig. 3. This causes the thread g to be draped over an empty spool e resting in a notch h 4 of the support h such that the spool e is in driven engagement with the drum a. The drum a and the spool e feed the thread g to the now stationary package b 1 so that the thread develops into a loop i 1 that increases in magnitude until it is of a size i sufficient to be caught between the spool e and a roller f driven by the spool e. The thread g now wraps around the spool e and is broken from the package b 1 . Spool e is then raised manually and placed with its shaft e 1 in the groove d 1 and the grooved drum a then continues to drive the spool e and guide the thread g thereon. The support h and associated arm h 1 is removable. In a modified construction, Fig. 5, the package b 1 is again driven by a grooved drum a and as the package increases in diameter its shaft moves up a groove p 1 . When the shaft reaches the top of the groove p 1 it rolls down the groove p 2 , thus carrying the finished package away from the drum a, Fig. 7. This motion of the package b 1 draws the thread g on to an empty spool e supported on one arm t 1 of a twoarmed lever t and, at the same time, a lever o is displaced by the package such that a spring- biased linkage system n, m, v rocks the lever t anti-clockwise, Fig. 9, to raise the spool e and align its shaft e 1 with the groove p 1 . The drum a and spool e now feed the thread g to the stationary package b 1 so that the thread develops into a loop q 1 that increases in magnitude until it is of a size q sufficient to be caught between the spool e and the driving drum a. The thread g now wraps around the spool e and is broken from the package b 1 . After the package b 1 has been removed, the lever o can be manually depressed to rotate the lever t back to the position shown in Fig. 5.</p> |
