PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of film forming phenomena by packing fine particles into the recesses on a surface while the photoconductive layer coated on a conductive substrate is still wet then drying the same. CONSTITUTION:An annular elastic sealing member 7 is fitted onto the outside circumference of a conductive substrate 2 in nearly tight contact therewith, and photoconductive zinc oxide 1 dispersed in a resin binder is built up on the surface of said member 7, after which the member 7 is depressed in an arrow direction to coat the zinc oxide 1 on the substrate 2, whereby a photoconductive layer 1 is formed. After this, this substrate is moved in an arrow direction by rollers 8, and the surface of the layer 1 is leveled off with a squeeze roller 9, after which it is left standing for a constant time to half dried. Next, a blade 10 having elasticity is supported on the substrate 2 to regulate the free movement of the fine particles (e.g.; silica) 3 of >=10<12>OMEGAcm electric resistance, and the substrate 2 is moved in an arrow direction to pack the fine particles 3 in the recesses on the surface of the layer 1, after which this is dried with a dryer 11. |
