The invention relates to a metal halide lamp with a heat-reflecting coating, the lamp having a discharge vessel consisting of a light-transmitting refractory material, for example of quartz, the discharge vessel being provided with current-lead electrodes, being filled with a rare gas added with metals and halogen and being provided at one end with a heat-reflecting coating. The binder material of the coating is formed by a Sorel cement, and the coating contains a glass precursor. The metal halide lamp according to the invention shows improved properties during manufacture, in particular improved extraction conditions.
