In flocculation in the course of water processing, the uniform microdistribution of the flocculants and/or flocculation aids in the whole of the water volume is of great importance. A precondition for this is the supply of a defined amount of mechanical energy per unit of volume during a defined residence time. This is achieved according to the invention by a cylindrical treatment vessel in which the mixing zone is constructed as an annular gap through which material flows axially. Revolving mesh paddles (12) are arranged therein. A calming zone for the development of agglomerates is provided downstream of the mixing zone.
