The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for producing a hollow object which is essentially constructed from two half-shells formed from sheets of plastic. The apparatus essentially comprises an upper mould (5), carried by a vertically movable upper table (3), and a fixed lower table (2) with the lower mould (4). The two moulds (4 and 5) are each assigned a clamping frame (7 and 6, respectively). The clamping frames are vertically movable in relation to the upper mould (5) and lower mould (4), respectively, by means of hydraulic cylinders (8, 9). A heating means (14), which heats on both sides, can be moved in between the clamping frames (6, 7). The sheets of plastic clamped in the clamping frames (6, 7) are simultaneously plastified by the heating means, subsequently deformed towards opposite sides to form half-shells and then fused to each other under pressure. <IMAGE>
